UiTM Trainee's Death Caused by Heat Stroke

Incident Overview

SHAH ALAM: A tragic incident at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has claimed the life of a cadet during Palapes training at the Shah Alam campus. Authorities have ruled out external injuries, identifying heat stroke-induced multiple organ failure as the cause of death.

Official Confirmation from Authorities

Selangor police chief Commissioner Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the classification of the case as a sudden death. On Nov 10, the cadet reportedly collapsed during a marching exercise and was rushed to Shah Alam Hospital.

Details of the Cadet’s Training

Investigations revealed that the student, who had enrolled in Palapes at UiTM Shah Alam just weeks earlier, was in the midst of a fitness test ahead of next year’s training. The victim had struggled to keep pace during a running session, prompting his trainer to order push-ups as a corrective measure. Moments later, he lost consciousness.

Hospitalization and Death

Medical staff at the emergency ward observed symptoms of severe dehydration and muscle cramps. Despite efforts to stabilize him, the cadet’s health deteriorated, and he passed away on Nov 13.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal

Selangor police have recorded statements from nine witnesses, including the father of the deceased, who filed a police report on Nov 15. Those with information are encouraged to contact Asst Supt Mohd Khairi Kamaruddin at 012-266 6025. Meanwhile, the Armed Forces has initiated an investigation following claims that bullying during the training might have contributed to the incident.
