Murder of Retired Officer: Son Calls It ‘Utterly Horrific’

JITRA: In a tragic turn of events, the son of Sabari Baharom, a retired Felcra officer, has revealed a connection to one of the suspects linked to his father’s suspected murder. Sabari’s body is believed to have been discarded in the Sungai Padang Terap, sparking outrage and disbelief among residents.

Muhammad Amir Hakimi Sabari, 25, described the crime as “utterly horrific,” expressing his shock at the actions of the suspect he recognized. This contractor had been working on a nearby house for the past five months, and Muhammad Amir felt compelled to speak out.

“I know him, and what he did is absolutely disgraceful and inhumane,” he stated to reporters on Monday, September 30. He was at the location in Sungai Padang Terap, hoping to hear updates from the police regarding the search for his father’s remains.

He shared that his father often interacted with the suspect while passing the construction site, exchanging pleasantries and engaging in brief conversations. “He is not from this village; he is an outsider, and my father always treated him with kindness,” he mentioned.

As the youngest of three children, Muhammad Amir conveyed the profound sadness that has enveloped his family as they await news from the authorities. They remain hopeful for a swift resolution in locating Sabari’s body. “We will keep performing solat hajat until we can find my father’s body. I hope that the search teams can effectively locate him, particularly in light of the ongoing flood conditions,” he remarked.

Earlier, Comm Datuk Fisol Salleh, the Kedah police chief, confirmed that Sabari, aged 62, had been found to have been thrown into the river, his hands bound and mouth sealed with adhesive tape by two suspects. Despite the efforts, his body has not been discovered since his disappearance was reported on September 4.

The police made headway in the investigation following the arrest of two male suspects from the area, aged 26 and 38, on Friday, September 27. The community is reeling from the brutality of this act and awaits more information from law enforcement. – Bernama
