A Painful Farewell
BUKIT MERTAJAM: “Mummy, I’m in so much pain!” These were Lee Zi Rou’s last words, spoken moments after a cargo container toppled and pinned her car, ultimately leading to her tragic passing at 21 years old. Despite her injuries, she managed to call her mother, Lim, one last time.
An Unsettling Phone Call
At 9:24 a.m., Lim answered the call, her heart filled with dread. “I sensed something was wrong,” she said in a tearful interview with China Press, recounting how she immediately tried to locate her daughter, who was silent on the other end.
The Search for Answers
Desperately, Lim asked another daughter to drive her along Lee’s usual route to work, hoping to find her. When someone eventually answered Lee’s phone, they informed Lim of the horrific accident. Arriving at the scene, Lim pleaded for help, but the cargo container was immovable.
Grieving a Lost Chance
“I hoped she could survive because she called me,” Lim said tearfully.
Funeral Arrangements and Legal Proceedings
The funeral is scheduled for Sunday at Berapit Crematorium. The 51-year-old driver responsible is under investigation and will be held for four days. He faces charges that carry up to a 10-year jail sentence, substantial fines, and long-term license suspension. Substance tests were negative.
Scene of the Accident
The accident took place at Jalan Bukit Tengah when the driver lost control, causing the container to crush Lee’s car. Another driver, Tan Chou Theng, survived with injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
