Meta Advances Use of Facial Recognition to Thwart Scam Ads

Meta Platforms Inc. is intensifying its fight against online scams by integrating facial recognition technology into its ad monitoring systems.

This initiative targets advertisements that exploit celebrity images to appear legitimate, duping users into visiting harmful websites. Meta’s approach involves cross-referencing ad images with celebrity profiles on Facebook and Instagram to identify mismatches.

The company is also exploring facial recognition for user account recovery, allowing users to regain access by submitting a video selfie for identity confirmation.
