JOHOR BARU: In a significant drug bust, police apprehended three individuals, including a married couple, and confiscated drugs worth over RM700,000 in Bandar Seri Alam.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak reported that the arrests took place at 9:30 PM on October 18. This operation was the result of a week-long surveillance by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
The suspects were detained while allegedly waiting to deliver the drugs to other members of a syndicate that remains elusive. “This group appears to be part of a larger syndicate, functioning primarily as couriers who transport drug supplies from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru,” Supt Sohaimi said.
According to him, the suspects collected the drugs and awaited pickup by other members of the syndicate in the vicinity. The vehicle used to transport the drugs will also be handed over to those involved in the distribution process.
The suspects include a 58-year-old local man, his 45-year-old foreign wife, and their 40-year-old driver. All three individuals have tested negative for drug use. Background checks revealed that the local man has two prior drug offences, while the driver has seven and the woman has one.
The group has reportedly been active since July. During the operation, police seized 20 packets of syabu, totaling around 22kg, valued at RM705,472. Each packet weighs about 1kg and is worth more than RM30,000.
Additionally, the police confiscated the vehicle valued at RM45,000. The suspects are currently remanded until Thursday, October 31, to facilitate the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
