Chinese Pair Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong Win Badminton Mixed Doubles Gold at Paris Olympics
In a dominant performance, China’s top-ranked mixed doubles pair Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong won their first Olympic gold medal in badminton at the Paris Olympics. They defeated South Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Jung Na-eun 21-8, 21-11. This victory compensates for their disappointment in the Tokyo Olympics, where they lost in the final. Zheng and Huang’s win marks China’s first badminton gold at the Paris Olympics and the fifth mixed doubles gold in the country’s Olympic history. This gold is also the 13th for China at the Paris Olympics. In the bronze medal match, Japan’s fifth-ranked pair Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino defeated Korea’s world champions Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jung 21-13, 22-20, securing their second consecutive Olympic bronze.
