Investigation Launched into Cat Deaths at UM
KUALA LUMPUR: Seven people, including a Universiti Malaya (UM) lecturer, students, and an animal rights activist, are under investigation following reports of dead cats found on campus grounds.
Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, the city’s police chief, mentioned that a cat carcass handed to authorities by an activist on Dec 21 is now under examination at a veterinary lab.
New Discovery Deepens Investigation
“Additionally, a second carcass located on Dec 25 at UM’s sports faculty parking area will also undergo post-mortem analysis. These autopsies are planned for Dec 27,” he revealed on Dec 26.
Call for Expertise in Investigating Cat Deaths
Kelab Kucing Malaysia’s president, Khalid Rashid, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation while suggesting expert involvement in reviewing the findings.
Evidence Points to Stray Dogs
On Dec 22, police stated that CCTV footage showed stray dogs attacking the cats. This was later corroborated by veterinary authorities, who linked the injuries to such attacks.
