MRT3 Project Construction Targeted for 2027 | Says CEO

Public Consultations and Land Acquisition Timeline

KUALA LUMPUR: According to Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim, the CEO of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), the on-site construction for the MRT3 project might only kick off in 2027, contingent on the completion of the ongoing land acquisition process.

Public consultations for the project are ongoing and will conclude on December 2. Once that phase is finished, MRT Corp plans to finalize the alignment and initiate the land acquisition process, which is estimated to take up to 24 months, extending into 2026.

Challenges and Hope for 2027 Construction Start

“We aim to begin the project by 2027, but it’s subject to the economic climate,” Zarif commented. “Given the improving economic landscape, we’re optimistic that it will provide a solid foundation to move forward,” he added at a press event during the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards 2024.

MRT Corp’s Success at MCIEA 2024

MRT Corp also received the prestigious “Best Project Award in Infrastructure (Major Category)” at the MCIEA this year for their work on the Klang Valley MRT: Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line. The MRT3, also known as the Circle Line, will complete the Klang Valley MRT network, linking key rapid transit systems. The 51km rail line will accommodate 25,000 passengers per hour, with a full journey taking about 73 minutes.
