Defence Minister Condemns UPNM Bullying Incident

KUALA LUMPUR: Nine individuals have been interviewed by the police as part of the ongoing investigation into the recent bullying case at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM).

Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, the police chief of Kuala Lumpur, stated that the statements were taken from the 19-year-old victim and eight other individuals following the filing of a police report on November 8.

“The senior cadet suspected of involvement in the incident will provide his statement later today at Cheras police headquarters. We are investigating the case under Section 325 of the Penal Code,” Comm Rusdi explained during a phone interview on Monday, November 11.

Appeal for Calm and Patience

He requested that the public refrain from making assumptions about the case.

“We encourage people to let the authorities carry out a comprehensive investigation,” he added.

Allegations and Details

This incident involves an alleged bullying case at UPNM that resulted in the victim sustaining injuries.

According to a police report filed on November 8 at around 8:40 pm, the victim, a first-year student, was injured after a roll call on October 21.

“The 19-year-old student reportedly suffered fractures to his ribs and spine after being stepped on by a third-year student. The victim is still undergoing treatment for his injuries,” Comm Rusdi said.

Minister’s Firm Stance

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin emphasized that any form of bullying is completely unacceptable.

“This kind of behavior is intolerable and harms the reputation of UPNM and other institutions of higher learning. We will cooperate fully with the authorities during this investigation,” he stated.
