Police Detain Suspects for DUI and Reckless Driving
JOHOR BARU: Johor police arrested eight people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during a roadblock on Jalan Daya and Jalan Mutiara Emas Utama.
Details of the “Ops Mabuk” Operation
The Johor Baru South police conducted the “Ops Mabuk” operation between 1am and 5am on Tuesday (Nov 26), under the leadership of Asst Comm Raub Selamat. The primary focus was to identify individuals driving under the influence.
DUI and Drug-Related Offenses
Six suspects were arrested for driving while intoxicated, with their blood alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit. These individuals were charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. In addition, two individuals faced arrests for reckless driving against the flow of traffic and tested positive for drug use. They were charged under Sections 42(1) and 15(1)(a) of the relevant laws.
Release on Bail and Court Proceedings
The authorities released all eight suspects on bail. They will be required to appear in court at a later date for their offenses.
Inspection and Summonses Issued
During the operation, officers inspected 116 individuals, consisting of 98 men and 18 women, and checked 97 vehicles. As a result, 40 summonses were issued for various traffic violations. These included driving without seat belts, non-compliant license plates, and other infractions.
Public Safety Appeal
ACP Raub urged the public to take road safety seriously. He emphasized that driving under the influence puts both the driver and other road users at great risk. He called on everyone to adhere to traffic regulations for the safety of all.
