Scammed and Threatened in Perhentian Islands

Foreign Tourist Scammed and Chased with Knife During Perhentian Islands Snorkeling Trip

A foreign woman shared on TikTok her harrowing experience of being scammed and threatened with a knife while snorkeling in the Perhentian Islands. She recounted that she and her sister were dining at a restaurant when a female employee suggested a snorkeling trip for RM30 per person. After the trip, the boat operator demanded more money, claiming they had only paid a partial amount. The female employee then appeared and insisted they still owed RM70, resulting in a heated argument. Although the woman agreed to pay an additional RM30, the situation escalated when a friend of the employee arrived with a knife, chasing the woman and her sister. The woman called for clearer pricing policies from Perhentian Islands staff to prevent such incidents and advised tourists to confirm all costs beforehand.
