Travel Alert for Malaysians Amid Flooding in Southern Thailand

Heavy Rain Brings Widespread Flooding

BANGKOK: Prolonged heavy rainfall has led to severe flooding in southern Thailand, prompting the Malaysian Consulate in Songkhla to advise Malaysians to postpone non-essential travel to the region.

Consul General’s Warning

In a statement issued Thursday (Nov 29), Malaysian Consul General Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi emphasized the need for caution. “The ongoing heavy rain has caused significant flooding, displacing thousands across southern provinces,” he noted.

Guidelines for Malaysians in Affected Areas

Malaysians currently in Southern Thailand are encouraged to remain cautious, monitor official updates, and heed instructions from local authorities. “Your safety is paramount. Please look out for one another and contact our consulate at +6693-6570707 if assistance is needed,” Ahmad Fahmi said.

Seven Provinces Severely Affected

Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) confirmed that floods have disrupted daily life in seven provinces, including Yala, Narathiwat, and Satun, affecting more than 136,000 households.

Emergency Operations Deployed

To assist those in need, the DDPM has mobilized equipment such as water pumps, portable water units, and rescue boats. Volunteer teams and local authorities are working together to provide relief and assess damages to facilitate financial aid.
