Flood Crisis: Death Toll Rises to Six as Relief Efforts Intensify

Kelantan Floods Claim Two More Lives

In a tragic turn of events, two men in Machang, Kelantan, drowned while monitoring livestock in the midst of the floodwaters. This brings the total death toll from the ongoing floods to six, highlighting the severe and dangerous conditions caused by the widespread flooding. As the situation remains dire, relief operations are being intensified to support affected communities and mitigate further losses.

Flood Victim Numbers Dip Slightly

Across the country, the total number of flood victims has slightly decreased, with the latest figure standing at 140,896, down from 148,024 earlier in the day. This reduction offers a slight sense of relief to the affected regions, although the situation remains critical in many areas. Relief efforts continue, as authorities work to provide aid to those still trapped by the rising waters.

Pahang and Melaka Face Challenges

Pahang remains one of the most severely affected states, with 1,230 evacuees currently taking shelter in 26 relief centres. Despite this, the state’s authorities are working tirelessly to ensure that displaced families are provided with necessary assistance and shelter. Melaka, too, saw a small increase in the number of evacuees, particularly in the Jasin district. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, with efforts being made to ensure the safety and well-being of those impacted.

Declines in Kelantan and Terengganu

In a more positive development, both Kelantan and Terengganu have seen a decrease in the number of victims, signaling some relief in these flood-prone areas. However, the floodwaters remain dangerously high in several major rivers, such as Sungai Golok and Sungai Semerak, which continue to pose a significant threat to nearby communities. Despite the decline in evacuee numbers, authorities are maintaining a heightened state of alert as they continue to assist those still affected.
