Parliament to Address Disability Employment, Economy, and Health Issues

Parliament to Focus on Disability Employment and Economic Growth

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday (March 3) Parliament will center around discussions on employment challenges for disabled individuals, economic policies, and infrastructure issues.

Addressing Barriers to Employment for Disabled Individuals

As stated in the official Order Paper, Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan (BN-Kuala Pilah) will direct a question to the Human Resources Minister regarding initiatives to encourage more businesses to hire disabled workers. Many employers remain reluctant due to accessibility concerns, a lack of awareness, and low confidence in accommodating disabled employees.

Strengthening the Semiconductor Industry

Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim (PN-Kuala Terengganu) is expected to ask the Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister about policies aimed at integrating the raw materials sector with manufacturing industries. The objective is to boost Malaysia’s semiconductor industry, a key component of the country’s high-tech economic strategy.

Road Repairs and Safety Measures

Infrastructure concerns are also a priority, with Datuk Wetrom Bahanda (KDM-Kota Marudu) seeking clarification from the Works Minister regarding government efforts to repair pothole-damaged federal roads.

Parliament Enhancing Food Security Through Data Analysis

Hassan Saad (PN-Baling) will request updates from the Agriculture and Food Security Minister on the 2024 Agricultural Census. The focus will be on how collected data will be used to enhance food security and develop the MySAgR agricultural database.

Shortages in the Healthcare Sector

Healthcare workforce concerns are also on the table, as Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) will ask the Health Minister for details on nurse resignations, their reasons for leaving, and the number of nurses required in both current and future healthcare facilities.

Legislative Agenda for the Day

Following the Q&A session, the Dewan Rakyat will proceed with the second reading of the Supplementary Supply Bill (2024) 2025 by the Finance Minister, alongside the tabling of the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2025.

Dewan Negara’s Parliament Concurrent Session

Meanwhile, the Dewan Negara session is also beginning today and is scheduled to continue until March 25.
