“Our investigation has determined that the video has been taken down. It had been watched 95,400 times and shared by 204 users,” he revealed on Tuesday (March 4).

Possible Charges and Penalties

The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA).

A conviction under Section 298 could lead to a maximum jail sentence of one year, a fine, or both. Additionally, under Section 233 of the CMA, offenders may be fined up to RM50,000, imprisoned for a maximum of one year, or both, along with an extra RM1,000 fine for each day the offense persists after conviction.

Authorities Complaints and Official Response

“A 44-year-old engineer reported the video after seeing it on Facebook, alleging that it featured radio station personnel making fun of Hindu religious rites,” Razarudin added.

He further noted that the DJs involved have since issued a public apology via the Era FM Facebook page.
